Faerieland

As the poster team for the Altador Cup's underdogs, Faerieland is often the first name that springs to mind when analysts are asked to pick a candidate for the bottom tier. Most analysts will quickly set this name aside however, when they recall the team's performance last year. Faerieland managed to top three other teams in AC V, finishing in fifteenth place with a Yooyuball record not far behind that of teams ranked ninth and tenth.

Faerieland's overall statistical record isn't actually that bad for an underdog. Critics of the team often assert that it has a high proportion of younger players with a limited grasp of the Altador Cup and how to effectively support the team, inhibiting the team's ability to perform as a whole. It's easy to forget that at the core of this fan base is a group of loyal, dedicated, and passionate players. Even when their team took pounding after pounding, and in the face of poor behaviour from bigger teams, Faerieland's resolve never faltered. If the Cup could be won on sportsmanship alone, this is the team that would win it.

Unfortunately for Faerieland, it's Yooyuball, not sportsmanship, that is the deciding factor in the Altador Cup, and the team's Yooyuball record still falls short of championship material. With The Faeries' Ruin, one of the most critically acclaimed Neopets plots to date, it's certain that Faerieland's supporter base will see rapid growth this year. A larger fan base may bring many benefits in the long run, but history has shown that an abrupt influx of players decreases a team's proportion of very active players. It is this proportion that decides whether a team can perform effectively or not, and it seems doubtful that Faerieland is in a position to turn this influx of new players into raw athletic power. Forged deep within Team Faerieland is the spirit of a true champion, and sooner or later the time will come for the Faeries to show their mettle, but alas, that time is not yet.
